7 September, Valkenburg, The Netherlands

Woke to a cooler, drizzly morning today. After a great breakfast, which is included here in the hotel we decided to explore the area around Valkenburg by car. Our first stop was the little village of Schin op Geul. This is where Mum and Dad first lived when they married and it is where John and I were born. The house no longer exists, but it is always interesting to go back and try and visualise our parents as a newly married couple setting up home here. Some years later the family moved to a new area into a brand new house located in Josmaenen Straat. We visited the house (again) and took a few photos, which alway brings the neighbours to their windows to wonder who these strange people are. Finally we drove up the Dahlemer Weg to Sibbe, to have a look at the last house we lived in before moving to Australia. As always, the memories come flooding back. This afternoon we wandered around town for a while and bought a few odds and ends.
This evening John and I walked back into town to find the footpath with leads up to the Wilhelmina tower which sits on top of a hill and overlooks the town.
We walked back through the town and even despite the autumn chill setting in, every outdoor cafe was full of diners. Took a couple more photos including one of Kasteel Den Halder (right in the middle of the town) before heading back to the hotel - tomorrow is another day.
