5 September - Valkenburg, The Netherlands

This morning we woke to another driving day, this time from Bruges in Belgium to Valkenburg in the Netherlands - about 220km. We arrived in Valkenburg around 1:30 this afternoon, and it was quite wonderful to get off the high speed motorway and immediately be immersed in the town I was born in. I've been back to Valkenburg many times and it is always special. By the time we arrived here the the sun had broken through and it was a fine day for a walk into town for a look and a coffee. Of course, when you are in Valkenburg the thing to have with coffee is a piece of 'vlaai' and in my case a piece of kersenvlaai (Cherry tart).
We had a quick walk around to get our bearings and then it was back to our hotel for a couple of beers and wines in the outdoor area.
The hotel is right on the edge of town and about a 10 minute walk into the CBD, so tomorrow we hope to get into town and visit a few of the famous tourist attractions. We are here for 4 nights and then we drive to Delft to catch up with Conny and Aad and family.
