We left Emerald this morning at 8:30 am for the final leg of our trip back to the coast. We arrived in Rockhampton just after noon. During our drive it became obvious we were approaching one of the major coal fields in Queensland. From Blackwater on we spotted numerous huge coal trains. Rosa tried to count the number of cars in one which had a loco at one end, then 50 cars, then two more locos and then another 50 cars, and we spotted at least 10 of these.
We are staying at the Big4 caravan park, The Tropical Wanderer. We last stayed here on our trip to Cairns in 2007. It is a beautiful park full of palm trees and tropical vegetation. We're booked in for three nights but might extend that. Hope to get some photos of the area tomorrow.
