Once again, with the magic of cruising, when we woke up this morning we were docked in Copenhagen, Denmark. We quickly had breakfast and then hopped on a bus into town. We had the grand tour of the city and then got off to find a bakery to taste Danish pastry in Denmark. You expect it to be good and it is unbelievable. Could easily have spent all day there, but...
From here we explored this beautiful city on foot. Copenhagen is frequently rated as the most liveable city in the world and it is easy to see why. To top to all off we had a mild sunny day as well, so the locals were all out in shorts and summer wear.
Another highlight on our walk was the Danish royal palace. The Danish royal family is the oldest royal dynasty in the world. The palace, and a number of others all front on to a large square which is open to the public.
We visited a number of other interesting spots, but another highlight for me was the statue of The Little Mermaid. This beautiful bronze statue, inspired by the Hans Christiaan Anderssen story "The Little Mermaid" is located right on the waterfront.
Now we are back on board and after a late lunch we are now ready for the final leg of this cruise which will take us to Amsterdam. Here most passengers will disembark but the four of us will of course stay on for the next leg to Istanbul.

Theo it is indeed beautiful and I'll be moving there sometime next year as Danielle has had an associate professor position created for her in Kolding (near German boarder). Her dream job.
ReplyDeleteNow here's the rub, motorcycle registration is 180% of the value of your bike so my GS will cost ~30k to register. It applies to all vehicles new and imported and is a once off. So this has thrown a spanner in my two year plan. I have to do some in depth research but all the Danish guys on adventure rider have confirmed this and that they both hate it and cannot avoid it. They are very helpful and will interpret the govt website sect for me. My best hope is that I ned to pay it but have it refunded when I leave -15% but everything is in danish and not straight forward.
